Keeping Your Creative Spark Alive While Saving

Saving to travel can be a bit relentless, especially if you are saving for a big trip. When you are also a travel blogger, it can be hard to keep that creative spark and passion for travel writing while you are waiting. So, here are our tips on how to keep that zing popping:

Read other travel blogs while you are saving. It really helps in so many ways. It doesn’t just inspire you, but it helps remind you what you love about various places, what moved you about different experiences, and why you are saving in the first place. It is so easy to come back from an adventure with hundreds of ideas – and that’s why we also recommend:

List Writing:

We have back up blog ideas written on a white board in our study, so when we need to post there is never a question of what to write, just of actually sitting down to write it. Harness your moments of creativity and inspiration by writing as many points as you can – that way, mid save, you won’t have any issues writing.

A big part of travelling is the photography. You will take far more photographs than you share – but don’t forget to keep dipping into those memories. Practicing your photography skills is important too – maybe you could take a class that teaches you how to excel in landscape photography.

Writing and Creative Time:

When teaching my Creative Writing students I would often tell them that they had to practice turning on creativity like a tap. It is something that needs to be learned, and no creative person becomes successful by waiting for inspiration to hit. You could be waiting all year. So, allow times for creativity to take place. Lock your door, turn on music, do whatever helps, and make sure that you are creative during that time. If you find you cannot think what to write, begin anyway, with a form of freewriting. Put pen to page and go go go – don’t stop, allow your unconscious writer to do the work. Creativity, like all things, takes practice. It’s up to you to give it the time it deserves.
